Regina "Jean" Dean Obituary

Regina Mary Dean (also known as Jean), 69, of Laurel, MD passed away September 23, 2018. She was born in 1949 to Martin A. Flemion Jr. and Regina M. Flemion. She is survived by her mother, and children, Carol Bissett, John Dean, and Traci Carter; her grandchildren, Rebecca Carter, Luke Carter, Brian Dean, Marc Dean, and Jason Dean; her brother, Martin A. Flemion III, and sister, Jacqueline DeGroot. She was preceded in death by her husband James T. Dean Jr., and her Father Martin A. Flemion Jr.

She served one term on the Laurel City Council and was very proud of her brother’s service as Laurel’s City Administrator.

Jean was to retire this year after 32 years as the office manager of Bethany Community Church where she was a founding member.  She attended the very first Bible study that led to the church being planted. Jean helped many people begin and grow in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, but her greatest love were the children of Bethany. She taught the Bible to many hundreds of kids. She was involved in everything the church has become known for including legislation to help churches in rented facilities, and ministry to local public schools and to the homeless and vulnerable.  She was part of the team that asked a perfect stranger who became a friend to donate the beautiful property upon which Bethany Community Church is located. She helped organized weddings and funerals numbering in the hundreds. In all of this, Jean was a loyal, steadfast friend to many.

In her free time, Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends, yard sales, helping others, making quilts, doing all kinds of crafts, doll houses, and collecting her favorite things.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10am at Bethany Community Church at 15720 Riding Stable Rd., Laurel, MD 20707. Following the visitation, a memorial service will begin at 11am.

Memorial donations may be made to Bethany Community Church.
