James “Jim” Fred Wampler, Jr., 71 of Laurel, MD, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 14th, 2018. Born in 1946 and raised in Wytheville, VA, he moved to Laurel, MD in 1972.
He was greatly loved by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife Linda Palmerton Wampler; his son Todd Wampler, his wife, Tara, of Pittsville, MD; his sister Barbara and, brother-in-law, Judson Lambert of Wytheville. Jim was very proud of his 6 grandchildren: Christopher, Lily, Ben, Matt, Hunter and Caleb. He also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Tula Long (91) as well as his three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; 5 nieces and nephews and 7 great-nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents: James Fred, Sr. and Beatrice Wampler and two nephews Jeff and John Lambert. Mr. Wampler attended George Wythe High School in Wytheville, VA and then went on to continue his education and serve in the US Navy during the Vietnam era. He worked in various fields before following his entrepreneurial spirit. He then went on to own and operate many successful ventures.
Mr. Wampler had a love for the Blue Ridge Mountains, where his ashes will return home. In his younger years he enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on hot rods and drag racing. Jim also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his friends and was always a fan of classic cars and old westerns. Very quick witted, he was a great jokester; never cutting anybody any slack. His memorial will be held on August 24th; family and friends visitation will be from 1pm-2pm; Service to be held at 2pm at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association, American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
