Judith Kuntz Obituary

Judith Kay Kuntz, 1941 - 2020

Judi  was born at home in Angola, Indiana on a warm 13th of July 1941, a Sunday.  She is the second of four daughters born to Henry Edgar “Eddie” Kling and Olive Bernyce (Shadoan) Kling. She met John when her School in Scott Center, Indiana merged with Fremont Consolidated schools in 1956. Actually, they met formally in October at the school’s fall festival as they did a turn the Hoop Shot concession. She wore a blue sweater. They had their first date in April 1957 and after several dates Judi began to think John was a little slow as he had not attempted to kiss her, a failing which was remedied on their 7th date They were soon going steady and got formally engaged on Christmas Eve 1958. After marriage in 1960, they lived in married housing at Indiana University for the next five years. During this period, Judi was the secretary to the Dean of the School of Business. Moving to Laurel, Maryland in 1965, Judi opted to devote her career to raising her two sons, Scott and Erik. Moving to Munich in 1968, she continued in that role, adding our daughter Megan in 1971. Shortly after returning to Laurel in 1972, Judi bloomed as she worked with various neighbors, providing care to some, transportation to others. Throughout, she demonstrated the compassion which guided her in everything she did, from running a day care center at Laurel Presbyterian to directing the weekly food distribution at Elizabeth House, all the while continuing to see to the needs of those around her. She was among those who could be counted on to provide a meal to members of the congregation of Our Savior Lutheran Church when needed, as well working with others to make sure that various church events were properly catered. She especially shone during the Christmas season as she baked countless cookies and other treats to give to others. She made a valiant attempt to again do so this past Christmas season, but the progression of her cancer prevented her from doing so.  Additionally, over the years, she served the Our Savior congregation as Sunday School teacher and as a member of the altar care team, a responsibility she especially enjoyed and one which she regretted having to give up. During the final stages of her illness, a congregant and friend wrote in a card to her “just a note to let you know what a blessing you have been over the years. You have shared your faith with so many of us … You are such a wonderful example of God’s love.” In one of the few services she was able to attend recently, we sang “Here I am, Lord” and asked that it be sung at her memorial service.

Judi is survived by her husband of 59 years, John, her sons John Scott, Erik Niells, and daughter Megan Elisabeth Angel as well as her sisters Peggy Sommers and JoEllen Labrosse and numerous nephews and nieces. She was pleased as well to be the honorary grandmother to Simi, Levi and Noah. She will be missed.
