Nancy Eileen (Phair) Welsh, 78, of Laurel, Maryland passed away peacefully on November 23, 2021. She was born in 1943 to Milton and Cora Phair at Leland Hospital in Riverdale, Maryland. Nancy was a member of the National Honor Society and graduated from Laurel High School as part of the Class of 1961. She began working at the brand-new Department of Defense at Fort Meade the day after graduation. That same year, Nancy began dating her future husband of 58 years, Jim. Nancy was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Laurel where she attended services, participated in the United Methodist Women, assisted with church bazaars, and helped lead annual Chrismon Services. While their sons were young, Nancy was a stay-at-home mom and was active in all of the boys’ activities from soccer to Boy Scouts to the church youth group. Later, as the boys grew, Nancy began working at the University of Maryland Office of Technology Transfer and subsequently retired after 17+ years. Nancy was the quintessential Christian, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and professional. Nancy enjoyed needlepoint, skiing, camping at Caledonia State Park, roasting hot dogs over a campfire, puzzles, cruising the Caribbean, trips to New England and Capon Springs, and seeing new places.
She is survived by her husband Jim, her son Jeff and wife Amy, son Mark, and four grandchildren: Sadie, Payton, Eliza, and Jackson. She was preceded in death by her parents Cora and Milton Phair and sister Louise Gryszkiewicz.
Visitation will happen at 10 am and a memorial service at 11 am on December 11, 2021 at First United Methodist Church of Laurel, 424 Main Street, Laurel, Maryland, 20707. A Thanksgiving meal will follow the service at the church.
